Once Upon a Time review (seasons 1-6)

Alright, I just got done watching Once Upon a Time season 6. Fun, right?
Once Upon a Time is a great series, but suffers from the fact that season 3-5 all blend together.
Alright:

Once Upon a Time (OUAT) season 1 is maybe in my top three favorite seasons, probably #2. I think it is a great season, with definitely the best cliffhangers. Honestly, I cried when Graham died. This one has so many great plots and characters. So many characters, and that's something the series lost over time, which is characters. They just seemed to focus on the eight main characters. But this one's a great season, and I love how all the plots just seem to add up, and at the end, you know they'll have another season.

Season 2 (2012)
Season 2 was one of the better ones, but it did have some silly plot points, like where (spoilers) Snow White feels bad for killing Regina's mom. She did the right thing, even though it was bad. It happens. Que Sera Sera. This one was a good season, and it's really cool to see Hook (my favorite character) and his quest against the Crocodile.

Season 3 (2013)

The gang fends off against the lost boys.

Season 3 was meh. Peter Pan was a great character, even if his motives were weird. The kid who played him captured him so well, it's just really cool to see. This is where the series gets to have two plotlines: Pre-midseason and after midseason. This one's after midseason is meh. This is the first season two really focus on just the main characters, and it was okay. Even if they did kill off Neal, and then reveal that Regina has a sister, the Wicked Witch of the West (Zelena), and then she no longer is green, and then they time travel, and everything's okay, but they brought an urn back from the past that makes another season.

Season 4 (2014)

Anna and Elsa --
the marketing subplot,
but otherwise good characters

Season 4 was the worst season. The after midseason was rubbish. Didn't like it. The pre-midseason was okay. The Frozen subplot kinda felt like they were trying to cash in on Frozen's success (Frozen was released the year before). After that, it was rubbish. Rumpelstiltskin became evil for, like, the seventh time. And every time, Belle thinks he's changed and then he doesn't. Then they get this weird plotline where Snow and Charming literally cast evil into Maleficent's baby. That's just cruel. It's mean, and it changes the way you see the characters. Before they were all cool and good, and now you're like, "Is that for real? That's bad... They suddenly became bad people... why did they do that?" And then Rumple becomes the dark one again, and Emma kills someone, and then through all of this, Snow just had a baby, and you're thinking she should be at home with her baby. Then Emma becomes the Dark One, and you know it's the same formula: Everything wraps up perfect and then there's a pesky detail that causes another season. This one's is that the darkness got banished from Rumple and found its way into Emma.

Season 5 (2015)
Season 5 was also meh. They have a dark swan subplot, where they are cursed again, and then they meet King Arthur, and Emma seems to be the Dark One, and she's mean, and takes Merida's heart, and Mr. Gold becomes a hero, but then go's bad again, but then Hook is revealed to be the Dark One, and then he dies, and Rumple becomes the Dark One again, and then they go to the Underworld, and then they get Hook back, and then Hades becomes Zelena's true love, and the Hades kills Regina's true love, Robin, and then Zelena kills Hades, and then everything's okay, except they go to another land with untold stories, and then Regina separates her evil from herself and kills her, but it turns out she survived. I think it's bad when a tv show actually has to have to create a huge backstory as they go, like with the Dark One thing. We saw a little in season three when Rumpelstiltskin came back to life (after dying to kill his dad, Peter Pan), and Neal resurrected him, but that was nothing compared to this. This was madness. But, I did like the Merlin character and Merida. The Merida subplot in this one was SO good. I loved it.

Season 6 (2016)
Season 6 was a great season. It's my favorite season, partly because it was a break from the regular old plotline (for plotline, see season 3-5). They actually stayed in Storybrooke, which was great. It meant they got to have characters from past seasons actually appear, like Jiminy Cricket and Pinnochio. That was a great thing after New York, then Neverland, then Oz, then the past, then Arendelle, then New York again, then Camelot, then the Underworld, then the Land of Untold Stories, and now we're home again. Sure, there was an episode or two where they actually stayed in the same place, but it's so good to know they're stationary. Technically, this season did have an alternate setting in the Dream Realm, but that only lasted two episodes. This season is great because it has menacing villains, even if it does have that pre/midseason thing (pre midseason is Evil Queen; After midseason is Black Fairy). But there was some stuff I didn't like. Like when they went back and revealed that Neal does have a dark side, and actually was tempted to use the Dark One's power to hurt others (and did). This was a break from the overall gist you got from Neal, that he hated his Dad's magic. So I didn't like that. I guess I also like that everyone got happy endings. Emma and Hook got married, Snow and Charming get to raise their baby, Zelena gets to raise her baby, and Dream Robin and the Evil Queen got engaged. I guess Regina didn't find true love or anything. She's just lonely.

The new Henry

But then they ruin it with the new stuff they threw at us at the last minute. All of a sudden Henry's an older guy and he has a daughter, and it's basically looking to be the same plot as season one.
That brings me to....

Worries about Season 7 (2017)
Season 7 seems to be the same thing as Season one. But what I don't like about this one is that they actually tore Regina and Hook away from their happy endings. Why? Hadn't they suffered enough? Hook had just got married, and Regina had lost so much. But dumb ol' Henry has to screw it all up and get himself cursed. Then they bring back the dream realm, where Hook doppelganger comes, and gets transformed into a younger Hook.
And Henry marries Cinderella.... that's weird. There's already an existing Cinderella.
Oh well.
