Alright! Today I decided to break the ordinary routine of 10 films in a Top 10 list, how about 18? So, 2018 is approaching quite fast, and this leaves me to wonder what films I'll be seeing. A couple of them I don't actually plan on seeing in theaters, as indicated by an asterisk.
Let's begin. |
18. Maze Runner: The Death Cure* - January 26th
Maze Runner: The Death Cure* is the final film in the Maze Runner trilogy. It is supposed to showcase the final moments of the book, but after the first two films, which messed around with the plot and cherry-picked story threads, this film could, and probably will, be a disappointment. Sadly, because the Maze Runner books were good and the franchise had a lot of potential.
17. Venom* - October 5th
16. A Quiet Place* - March 9th
It's not often we get PG-13 horror flicks, especially PG-13 horror flicks that seem worth the ticket price. A Quiet Place seems like an interesting concept from Jim from The Office. A world where monsters hunt you if they hear you. Sounds scary.
15. Ready Player One* - March 11th
I recently read the book, and the book is amazing. The movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, seems good too. I'm just not sure how well a book about people playing video games will translate to the screen (One of the challenges was literally just playing Joust).
14. The Meg - August 10th
13. Mary Poppins Returns* - December 25th
Look, the first Mary Poppins is a classic that everyone loves. Why on Earth they're making a sequel, I have no idea. But I still want to see it, if only to compare it to the original. And it's getting the Hamilton guy to write a few songs, so that's cool.
12. Christopher Robin - August 3rd
The movie that inspired this list is one I didn't know about until two weeks ago. As a kid, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was, like, my favorite movie that I still love watching to this day. Christopher Robin's premise intrigues me - A grown-up Christopher Robin has lost his imagination and sense of fun, so Poohbear and the others help him get it back.
11. Ralph Breaks the Internet - November 21st
The first Wreck-It Ralph was a really good movie, one of my favorites. But what really sells this one is the characters that'll appear - All the Disney Princesses, C-3PO, Iron Man, Stan Lee, Stormtroopers, Eeyore, Groot, and Buzz Lightyear. Maybe the movie won't be that great, but I'm sure it'll at least be remembered for the cameos.
10. Aquaman - December 21st
After seeing Justice League, I am really excited for this movie. Aquaman was a highlight of that movie, so I'm glad we're getting more content around him, considering how little we learned about him in the aforementioned Justice League. Plus, I don't know a lot about Aquaman's backstory, so this'll be new information for me.
9. Incredibles 2 - June 15th
The Incredibles is an amazing film that everybody loved. It was critically acclaimed and has become a cultural touchstone. A sequel is something fans have been dying for. Who is the badguy? Will it be as good as the first? That animation looks amazing!
8. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - November 16th.
Fantastic Beasts was a Harry Potter spin-off that was... okay. It was good, and was definitely laying out the groundwork for a more interesting movie. Hopefully, we get more of the stuff we liked - Wand dueling and Nifflers.
7. Solo: A Star Wars Story - May 25th
Sorry Han, you can't rank higher than this. It'll be nice to see Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca, but do we really need a Han Solo movie? I hope this movie does will and is good. The trailer was amazing, so it's got that going for it.
6. Ant-Man and the Wasp - July 6th
Ant-Man was the 2015 summer Marvel movie that was pretty good. I love the Avengers, and I have been waiting for Wasp to be introduced since, like, 2011. Fun Fact! In the original Avengers film, Wasp was originally planned to be the team's female member, but was cut for Black Widow. Can't wait to see some more of the quirky heist antics that Ant-Man gets into.
5. A Wrinkle In Time* - March 9th
I should be excited about this, and the trailer looked amazing, and Ava Duvenray's a fantastic director, but something about A Wrinkle In Time seems off. Maybe it's because Disney is making it, and they don't have the best track record for making good book adaptations.
4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - December 14th
I love Spider-Man, so I think an animated Spider-Man film is excellent. The trailer was just released, and the animation looks off the wall. I can't believe I have to wait an entire year to watch this! And a film centered around Miles Morales is pretty cool, but I'm a bit wary of the Spider-Verse part. Miles is a good enough character to hold his own film, so hopefully they find a balance between Miles' story and all the Spider-Verse characters like Spider-Ham, Spider-Noir, and Spider-Gwen.
3. Black Panther - February 16th
Black Panther is going to blow our minds. Chadwick Boseman did a great job as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, so this should be good. I'm also excited about this because for the longest time Black Panther was my favorite Marvel character. This film is something I have been waiting for as far back as I can remember. It can't disappoint. It won't.
2. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - June 22nd
I really loved Jurassic World because of its unapologetically big blockbuster style. Big dinosaurs, Chris Pratt, and PG-13 carnage. The sequel is reportedly darker, so that sounds cool. And it's bringing back Jeff Goldblum! We love Jeff Goldblum!
1. Avengers: Infinity War - May 4th
Maybe we get a Kree-Skrull war? A story centered on Thanos? I have no clue, but I'm just too excited for it!
