Alright! I saw Fallen Kingdom on Saturday, and I'm still not sure what I think of it. I don't really know if I liked it or if it was meh. But I do have thoughts on it:
Spoilers ahead.
What's wrong with the movie?
1. Lockwood
The biggest problem with the movie is Lockwood. Lockwood is John Hammond's previous partner from about 40 years ago. He was never referenced in any film, but the biggest problem was that this problem was easily avoidable by:
A. Having it be a regular wealthy guy
You could just get rid of Lockwood and keep Eli Mills as just a regular evil guy with cash.
B. Having it be Tim from Jurassic Park
Tim is the annoying kid from Jurassic Park. This would a lot better if "I feel guilty for my grandfather's mistakes" and then he is the one killed, and you are actually sad when he dies.
C. Having it be Alan Grant
Alan Grant is not wealthy. But that doesn't mean he couldn't get sponsors to rescue dinosaurs.
2. Maisie is a clone
I liked the new character Maisie. But she has such a dumb twist: She is a clone of her mom, who died early. It's like, "Am I supposed to know this person? Lockwood said she visited the Park. Who was she? Why was this a twist?"
Also easily avoidable: She isn't a clone.
3. Franklin Webb
I liked the new character Franklin and I actually thought he would die several times. But he was dumb. Why not just get Larry from Jurassic World? That makes more sense, he knows the park, and then you don't have another tooth gap character.
4. the Trailer
The trailer gives away the whole plot, how Maisie is rescued from the bedroom, that Webb survives, the Mosasaurus escapes, and that they are auctioning the dinosaurs (For surprisingly low amounts, like $4 million to $30 million).
What was right about the movie?
1. Chris Pratt
Christ Pratt remains one of the coolest actors ever. The A-List actor is able to once again steal the show in Jurassic World.
2. the dark moments
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has very dark moments, from the lights being out to actually having extremely dark moments.
3. The horror director
J.A. Bayona is actually a horror director. This is good. Surprisingly, the movie was not scary, but just tense.
4. No high heels
Claire does not wear high heels. This is a good thing.
