Alright!
the Mulan reboot will SUCK
Disney is remaking Mulan, and so far, here's my impression of it:
>:0 (Angry face)
They are remaking Mulan, an excellent movie, but taking out the excellent.
They are taking out the songs.
And Li Shang.
Giving Mulan a sister (So how's that work into the whole "Honor" story arc?")
Taking out the badguy and replacing him with a witch.
Making the emperor young.
And NO MUSHU.
And they're not doing it for historical accuracy. They are redoing Mulan and not making Mulan. People won't go to see that.
Here it is laid out:
People go to see Disney remakes because they want to see the original in live action. They do not care for the film if it does not keep to the original.
Maleficent:
Maleficent left out the songs, was not close to original, made 758.5 Million (good), and got mixed reviews
Cinderella remake:
Cinderella left out songs, was not close to original (1/2 of the original was devoted to the mice. The mice are cameos in this film. This is not close to the original), made 543.5 Million (okay), and got okay reviews
the Jungle Book remake:
the Jungle Book kept songs, was close enough to original, made 966.6 Million ("Whoah"), and got great reviews
Beauty and the Beast:
Beauty and the Beast kept songs, was close to original, made 1.264 Billion (Mega "Whoah"), good reviews
Dumbo: Changing plot, it's gonna be awful (Probably 6.43 Million at box office)
Aladdin: Keeping songs, keeping plot, gonna be great (Probably 8.76 Million at box office), barring some giant mishap with Will Smith's Genie.
the Lion King: Keeping songs, keeping plot, gonna be great (Probably over 1 Billion at box office). One thing that could go wrong is the photo-realism. Photo realism is not exactly the best thing to translate a cartoon into.
Mulan: Not keeping songs, not keeping plot, it's gonna SUCK (Cinderella box office level). It could be redeemable, however, if they can replace all that other stuff with great action, cinematography, and visual effects.
