Throughout the Star Wars saga, we have had two defining forces: The Dark Side, and the Light Side, raging over who gets ultimate control.
However, in Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace, Anakin Skywalker is said to have no father. That's not possible. His dad, is, of course, the force. The force created this child, this vessel, to carry the Light Side. Throughout the Saga, several people try to kill Anakin, and he eventually turns to the Dark Side and kills all of the Jedi.
What happened there?
Well, actually, Darth Vader was always a good person, just misguided. In the OT, he is portrayed as a ruthless death bringer to the galaxy, but the prequels turn him into a sympathetic villain, and that's important. He was never really a bad person. Sure, he killed people, but in the end, he let himself die to raise way to a new generation of heroes.

So, the obvious next carrier of the Light Side is Rey. Rey is literally the Light Side personified. Sure, it's said that her parents were drunkards, but in reality, that was probably a lie. But think about it!
Throughout the last two movies, Rey has had no character arc. She's perfect. She can't fly, but she can. She can't use the force, but she can. She sees the good in everyone, even those long gone. She is your standard superhero, no limits, just doing good, stopping evil.
But that, of course, leads to the big question:
Who is the Dark Side?

Well, that answer is very simple. It's Luke Skywalker. Hands down, no question asked, Luke Skywalker is truly an evil man. He attacks and then lets the Light Side die (Darth Vader), and then tries to create a new generation of Jedi, but ends up creating Sith, tries to discourage the Light Side Mk. 11 (Rey) from going back and saving a poor, misguided soul. He then tries to destroy the Jedi memory and sacred texts.
He's awful.
He also seems like a cure to everyone around him, killing his Father, leads to getting Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen, as well as several Jawas, dying, breaks up his sister's marriage, leads their child to the Dark Side, and then lets that child kill Han Solo.
The next obvious choice for the Dark Side vessel would be Kylo Ren. He killed his father, he was trained by the Dark Side (Luke), and really only became super evil when Luke started to become a good guy.
So there you go, that's my Star Wars 9 theory.
