Godzilla: King of the Monsters review!

Alright! Today I am reviewing (Spoiler-free) Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
The 2014 Godzilla was epic. Sure, it was long, but the ending with Godzilla breathing fire breath down the throat of the MUTO was so EPIC. It was a good movie. Very dramatic. Very tense.
But it was missing a lot of Godzilla. It had, like, less than 12 minutes of Godzilla.

This movie is the complete opposite of that.
In the first 45 minutes, there are, like, three monster fights. But, unlike the first Godzilla, this one completely misses out on everything human. The human plot and characters are so clichéd and stupid it's actually laughable.
But, overall, is the movie good?
Well yes, but actually no.
If you are looking for a big budget monster movie with epic screenshots every ten minutes, then this is the film for you. If you are looking for something like the 2014 Godzilla, with a lot of human drama to anchor the monsters, then you should go rewatch the 2014 Godzilla.

But let's talk Titan designs.

Every Titan in this film is awesome. Rodan, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah especially, are all so cool. The movie really puts a lot of effort into making sure that they are treated and respected like Gods. Because that's what they are.

Like, King Ghidorah. Every scene with King Ghidorah is either very tense or just awe inspiring, and at often times, scary. I'm, like, terrified of him.
In the second half of the movie, Mothra is really cool. First half, not so much. But second half, she is just so awesome. And sweet.
Godzilla, of course, is so awesome.

Also, the CGI in this film was AMAZING. It was more like CGIncredible. It looked very real.

But there is a giant hole in the movie.
Humans.
Every single human character here sucks.
The exception is Ken Watanabe, who continues to stare dramatically. However, he doesn't really have any insanely dramatic lines like he did in the first film.

But yeah, this movie falls on the disaster movie cliché where the two parents are divorced. And I HATE it when movies do this.
Why?
It's cheap. It's easy. It's just a plot device. I really respected the 2014 Godzilla for showing a married couple. It made it feel more real and made me care about the characters more.

King of the Monsters resorts to it can move the plot forward. For example, having the two leads trying to find each other is a great way to fill runtime! And another great way to fill runtime is to talk about why they got divorced, and a really great one is to introduce a 10-17 year old child into the mix so that they can induce more drama.

And, another thing, this movie really lacks A-List stars. Millie Bobby Brown as the obligatory child was okay, due to her work in Stranger Things.  But really, this movie needs either Dwayne Johnson or Chris Pratt. They needed to be in this movie.

We needed you.

But back to the movie.
The human characters are laughable. And their reasons are even more so.

The main human antagonist of the film is this dude named Jonah, who is an eco-terrorist.
I know.
It feels lifted straight from a bad 90s film.
One of the villains has a monologue about how the Earth needs Titans back, and this justifies the villain lying and letting people die. The entire time, I was laughing. On the inside. Because they still treated it like it was serious!

I especially hated the mom's character.

Like, I was expecting some underdeveloped human characters and plotlines, but nothing this laughable.
I'm giggling right now.

And plot?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
It was awful.
Really, people were paid to write it. It's incredible. I honestly would've preferred no human characters and just monsters.

However, with all the big battles and stuff, each time they bring Godzilla so epically that by the third time it is no longer epic. However, in the final fight, he has a very epic entrance.
Another thing I found wrong with it was how much the humans had to help Godzilla. Now I'm wondering how Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah in the olden days without us launching missiles and what not.

Every time they did that, I really felt like taking the camera and pointing it back on the monsters, like, "I don't care about the humans. Give me the monster fight the movie has been hyping up for the past two hours."
Also, the final fight between Godzilla and King Ghidorah is suprisingly short. I wished it had gone on longer.

Also also, I am totally hyped over Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020. Very hyped.

Overall rating, 5/10. "While skipping about an hour and a half of human drama would make the film better, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is epic where it needs to be and dumb everywhere else."
