the LEGO Movie 2: the Second Part review!

Alright! I have just seen the LEGO Movie 2: the Second Part, and let me say,

The Catchy Song, by Dillon Francis feat. T-Pain and That Girl Lay Lay, is, as the title would suggest, is very Catchy. In fact, I am listening to it while writing this. It is so catchy... I didn't think they would be able to top Everything Is Awesome, but here we are.

But moving on.

The LEGO Movie 2 is sweet, adorable, and most likely on-par with the original. I wouldn't pick one over the other because both have their faults:

Unexpectedly funny and cool
As expected, funny and cool

Yeah, they're both pretty cool. But LEGO Movie 2 shys away from the overly sentimental "Everyone is special" sentiment; instead, it focuses on Mad Max, "The only one you can trust is yourself" gritty realism.

And so that makes the LEGO Movie 2 a bit better in my book, but I think that the first LEGO Movie is funnier.

This is where the spoilers happen.

However, there are a couple things that I LOVE about the LEGO Movie 2

1. Rex Dangervest
Rex Dangervest is a [Spoiler] future version of Emmet and ultimately the main villain of the movie. As movie villains go, this one was very deep. I understood where he was coming from. His friends abandoned him, and so he turned his back on the rest of the world. Made his way. And unfortunately, these people do exist. They need a hug.

2. Rex Dangervest has raptors
And the raptors LOVE tennis

3. This quote from Rex Dangervest:
"...Emmet's one tough cookie. He's a cookie so tough and hard, you can't even chew it, 'cause it turns out it's not a cookie, it's a chainsaw."

4. Chris Pratt

5. The film's emotional climax
The film's emotional climax, to me, is the part where after Emmet "Grows up," he confronts Lucy as she tries to stop him from causing Ar-Mom-Ageddon.
And he says "The real Lucy would never say that."
This scene basically broke my heart. Emmet is always happy and pretty clueless. So when I hear the conviction in those words, I know he means it. And it stings.

6. The music was not cringy
Originally, I thought that this movie would by SOOOOO cringy. A musical film directed by Mike Mitchell, who directed Shrek Forever After, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, and TROLLS? Trolls is actually one of the worst animated movies ever.
But the LEGO Movie 2's songs are actually all catchy. I especially like "The Catchy Song," "Gotham City Guys," and the "Everything is Awesome" Tween Dream remix.

I would give it an overall consensus of 8/10, with a little summary reading, "Basically an extra hour and a forty five minutes of the first movie but a bit better."
