Alright! Today I'm doing the Top 10 Superhero Themes, because I'm bored.
Superhero movies aren't exactly known for their great scores, in fact, it's one of the biggest complaints about superhero films.
But nonetheless, some of them have amazing, nay, iconic scores.
Also, I'm really bad at identifying instruments in stuff, so sorry.
10. Black Panther Theme - Won Best Original Score
This is the first superhero film to win an Academy Award, and the only one to win Best Original Score.
But compared to all the others, honestly, this one isn't as cool. Now, it is very African sounding, and very recognizable, but it lacks distinction.
It's just more of those trumpets doing riffs, which we really don't need more of. Luckily, it has the African drums in the background doing their best to be cool.
I would also argue that it's use in the movie was minimal, and that it needed more triumphant scenes to be rememberable.
9. Spider-Man 3 "Black Suit" Theme
This is a theme where it's use in the movie actually makes it even better. When Peter Parker wakes up after touching Venom, this is the the first thing that happens.
This theme, which is very much like a dark take on the original Spider-Man theme. But eeeeeevil.
8. X-Men: First Class "Magneto" Theme
X-Men: First Class was great for a lot of reasons, but one of which is this theme. It always plays when Magneto is doing something evil.
Like when he's interrogating people who worked at Holocaust camps, or he fails to save his mom. It's a very strong theme that just screams distinction.
7. Avengers "Portals" Theme
The Avengers Portals Theme is like the regular theme on steroids. It keeps building and building, until you get to a chilling section, and then you get the steroid Avengers Theme. And its use in the movie was perfect. One of the best movie scenes ever.
6. Avengers Theme
People hate on the MCU for having no recognizable music. Those people obviously have never seen an Avengers flick.
Maybe it's just Marvel fans, but people notice the Avengers theme. It makes you feel like a superhero, like a superhero theme should. It just makes you feel great.
5. Superman 1978 Theme - Nominated for Best Original Score
The Superman (1978) theme is one of the greatest film themes ever. Instantly recognizable, a pop culture staple, this theme flies on all levels.
It's like someone loaded up a nostalgia gun for when Superman was happy and bright and punched you in the face with it.
And, it was composed by John Williams, musical theme genius.
4. Thor: Ragnarok - End Credits/Planet Sakaar Theme
You know, this entire movie's soundtrack should be on here. These themes are amazing for somehow feeling retro and 80s, even though Ragnarok came out 2 years ago.
It brings back good memories and cements Mark Mothersbaugh as one of the greatest musical geniuses ever. It gives off a very distinct vibe.
3. Spider-Man (2002) Theme
The Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy is the best Spider-Man trilogy ever. Right now, it's also the only Spider-Man trilogy ever.
But here, Danny Elfman really brings it, in a way the other Spider-Man movies just haven't. When you hear this, you actually can visualize yourself swinging around a city.
It just sounds so cool!
2. The Dark Knight Trilogy Theme
This is an excellent score by Hans Zimmer. Hans Zimmer does amazing soundtracks, and has a special ability of turning regular scene transitions into epic ones just through holding a note and crescendoing.
It's really quite brilliant.
1. Batman 1989 Theme
Once again, Danny Elfman. I feel like in this score, not only does it perfectly capture the mood and atmosphere of Batman, but it also feels Batman.
Just knowing Batman, this sounds like the perfect theme for him. Like, I sorta liked Batman, but this theme elevates that film so much it's amazing.
