Alright! Today, to celebrate how Frozen II comes out this Friday, I am reviewing the first Frozen.
I saw this film on opening weekend, along with my one year old sister. That was a mistake. Like every young girl who saw it, she would be obsessed with it. Even today. I feel like the original Frozen hype somewhat died off, though. But it's back for Frozen II! Yay.
Perhaps the one, most absolute thing wrong with this film is how overhyped it was.
Let It Go has a billion views on YouTube. Congratulations.
You have so, so much marketing and toy campaigns, and tie ins to go in with your movie. Nice.
You have a hyped soundtrack, and the minds of every young daughter who sees it. Good for you.
But what about the people who just wanted to see a movie?
That's me. As a movie, Frozen's good. It packs a few twists, some good songs, and what ultimately comes down to a good story, loveable characters, and brilliant animation.
However, I really hated this movie for a few years, just because of how much I heard about it. You drowned in Frozen merchandise when this came out. My sister sang Let It Go for three hours straight one time.
But looking back on it, this movie is good. I just wouldn't call it a new Disney renaissance. Certainly it's better than Chicken Little and Brother Bear, but people kept saying it was better than Tangled. That is false. Tangled is awesome. And, it came out after Wreck-It Ralph. I love Wreck-It Ralph. I should go watch it. Oh right, I'm talking about Frozen.
Part of what made Frozen awesome is the soundtrack. Nothing on the soundtrack I love, but it's a pretty solid soundtrack, and better than Tangled's and Princess and the Frog's.
Once again, the biggest problem with the soundtrack? It's overplayed.
Also, the Hans twist was pretty good. It didn't exactly make sense for him, and there's a bunch of theories about that, but he's coming back for Frozen II, so that's cool.
I also want to say that I really like Olaf. He was a good character and instantly iconic.
Overall opinion: 9/10, "Frozen is a good movie, but so, so, so overhyped and played."
