1917 Review

Alright! Today I am reviewing my first R-Rated movie and Golden Globe Award winner, 1917.

1917 is rated R for "Violence, some disturbing images, and language." Honestly, the violence isn't terrible. It's about on par with They Shall Not Grow Old in that sense. The R-Rating kicks in with the language. While infrequent (And most of them in the first ten minutes), the movie has 10-15 F-Bombs.
It's not too terrible for the R-Rating, and given the circumstances, it's okay.

The film is about two British soldiers who have to cross No-Man's Land to deliver a message to a troop about to be ambushed by the Germans. It's quite epic.

1917 is designed to look like one shot, and by golly, is that incredible. The effect it has on the audience is amazing. It roped me into the film I don't think a normally shot film would have. I have no idea how they pulled it off, but it is a technical miracle. It looks amazing. It makes you feel like the third person on this mission the two must pull off.

I almost cried while watching this film. There is one incredibly sad scene that almost had me in tears and another scene which was just purely epic.

Overall Opinion: 10/10. "Emotional, epic, tense, and impressive, this one-shot WWI flick is one of the strongest movies of the decade."

So, some spoilers below.

There is this scene in 1917, or, technically, a part of 1917 that is breathtakingly epic. The main character dude runs out of the trench and onto the field to deliver the message, running against the attacking British army and the Germans bombing the place.
That scene and the score, as well as the feeling of it being an actual victory for the character and the audience almost brought me to tears. I have no idea why, but I almost cried from sheer epicness, akin the Portals scene from EndgameImage result for 1917"

I don't think the movie's pace drags. The only two scenes I thought were mildly boring was a scene where a guy is singing, for, like,a minute straight. That was kind of slow.

The other I thought was slow was a scene where the main character dude meets a war refugee hiding under a building. While I love the scene, I thought it was a bit longer than it had to be (Probably because the main character dude tells a really weird story to an infant).

But I absolutely love 1917. One of the best movies of the decade and among my favorite movies.
