Gravity Falls Review!

Alright! Today I am reviewing Gravity Falls, a witty, clever, and surprisingly well animated show that aired on the Disney Channel from 2012 until 2016. Gravity Falls follows twelve-year-old twins Dipper and Mabel Pines as they spend the summer with their great uncle (grunkle) Stan in the small town of Gravity Falls, Oregon, where they discover things are not as they seem, and that there's an entire hidden magical world out there.

Gravity Falls marks an impressive first for me - It's the only one of these "Noodle arm" shows that I've been able to tolerate (The modern style of animation that makes people look like jelly and their arms noodles). My prior despising of this animation leads to one of my favorite jokes in the series, when Dipper Pines, in a moment of self-doubt, yells out "Look at these noodle arms!" Easily one of my favorite gags in the show. I also commend the animation for how it possesses the ever-kinetic quality of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Every frame seems to have movement, a hidden detail, or just something to make it interesting, to make it feel real.

Another thing I commend the show for is the gag-a-minute pace, none of which is low-brow cheap humor - these episodes are some of the funniest TV episodes I've ever seen, all of which are elevated by a hilariously talented voice cast. Gravity Falls has some of the best comedic timing and deliveries you'll ever see, making even the lamer jokes hilarious.

Waddles was the best character, hands down.
Yet another aspect of the show I loved was the mystery aspect, where a very gripping, very moving, and extremely interesting mystery box is presented, obviously thought out and intriguingly suspenseful, with a full side of some of the best plot twists I've ever seen on television. It does the mystery box aspects better than 99% of actual mystery box shows (I'm looking at you, J.J.).

Gravity Falls also fulfilled my je ne sais quo need of a very livable world. The town of Gravity Falls is relentlessly relatable despite boasting zombies and ghouls, and, like most things, you don't realize how much you love it until you didn't have it anymore. I really liked the show, but after finishing the finale I loved it. Such a feeling of devastation after realizing you won't be visiting this wacky town every day.

Overall, I give Gravity Falls a 10/10. "With top-notch animation, humor, plotting, pacing, and emotion, Gravity Falls is stellar."

See you next review.
