Alright! 2021 has been a year, that's for sure. It's dragged and lagged and yet I could've sworn it was March just yesterday. How the time flies when you're just living. Every time a year passes, you always think "That went by really quickly." And then the next year starts and you think the exact same thing. Makes you wonder how long it takes before life begins to feel like that as a whole.
Anyway, this year is still feeling the ripple effects of Covid. This list should be filled with the likes of Thor: Love and Thunder, Hamilton, The Batman, Avatar 2, Black Adam, and Indiana Jones 5. Alas, this is what fate has rolled us.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
Honorable mentions:
2/10: Space Jam: A New Legacy
3/10: Red Notice
4/10: Black Widow
5/10: Dear Evan Hansen, Eternals
6/10: Luca, Venom: Let There Be Carnage
7/10: Jungle Cruise, The Tomorrow War, Godzilla vs. Kong, West Side Story
8/10: Free Guy, Raya and the Last Dragon, tick... tick... BOOM!
"The only thing that spills more freely than blood in The Suicide Squad are the excellent characters, charm, and a surprising amount of heart."
9. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
“Shaky pacing aside, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is an action-packed and surprisingly emotional fantasy epic.”
"A Quiet Place Part II is more of the same - granted, this same is a really solid, well crafted, intense movie that I enjoyed the daylights out of."
"In the Heights has, quite possibly, the best "vibe" of any movie you'll see this year. Its infectious energy and earnest zealousness make it one of the few movie musicals to not suck."
6. Sing 2
5. The Mitchells vs. the Machines
"Beautiful animation, absolutely hilarious comedy, and a surprisingly heartfelt emotional core make The Mitchells vs. the Machines an absolutely incredible movie."
"Vibrant animation and cleverly written songs make Encanto a fun, if somewhat congenerous, family-friendly adventure."
“Dune is a pitch-perfect adaptation of the (First half) of the source material - for better or for worse.”
"Negative comparisons to Into the Spider-Verse aside, Spider-Man: No Way Home is a fully formed Spider-Man movie in its own right, epic and tragic in all the ways Spider-Man stories should be."
1. Zack Snyder's Justice League
"Against all odds, Zack Snyder's Justice League is actually incredible, albeit much longer than it should be."
And I just want to say that my favorite movie scene of this year was At the Speed of Force. |
